Pareto Charts begin with the category having the greatest frecuency or cost and tail-off in descending order. They commonly show the cumulative percent frecuency of defects using a second vertical scale on the right side of the chart.
When and how to use it?
- To illustrate the predominance of varying causes of poor quality by charting the causes in descending order of frecuency or cost from left to right.
- To assist the practitioner in determining which problem should be addressed first.
- May be used in conjunction with cause and effect diagrams.
- Are equally relevant in both manufacturing and transactional process improvements.
- Are only as valid as the data they summarize.
